Initial Roadmap

The initial UMeFate roadmap has established the focus plan for the first few years of the development. And the future more generalised goal targets on improving UMeFate.

RoadMap V01 - UMeFate - 2024.11.19

One of the initial targets was, to publish the first UMeFate Pre-Alpha Tech Demo in 2024. Which took place around November 2024.

But for anyone curious about more details regarding initial roadmap, you can read on UMeFate blog post from 2024

Roadmap Progress Since 2024

The next tech demo was planned in early 2025. But due to development challenges and its various changes, the next Steam update of Pre-Alpha Tech Demo was released after mid of 2025.

More about the release on the blog
https://antyversum.com/2025/09/16/umefate-v0-0-9-pre-alpha-steam-release-of-tech-demo-51/

Until then, some refined and new mechanics consist of:

  • Split-screen of up to 4 players.
  • Basics map editor. Also supporting split-screen
  • 1000 of UMes (NPCs), walking atm. randomly. But already controlled from Lua (modding).
  • Basics of spawning objects with LOD support (i.e. bed, but no functionality).
  • Basics constructions building tools.
  • Floors and stairs, which wasn’t actually planned in early 2025.
  • Split-screen players controls support like keyboard, mouse, gamepads.

Refined Roadmap

In the updated roadmap until November 2025, there are few changes that occurred, besides the general update on the development progress.

In the screenshots below, you can see green features that are done, or mostly done.

Yellow started but pending progress. And the red, currently working on. The blue markers means, feature is not started yet.

UMeFate - RoadMap Pre-Alpha 2025-2026 V02 - 2025.11.
UMeFate - RoadMap Pre-Alpha 2025-2026 V02 - 2025.11.

Until November 2025, UMeFate has achieved few targets. Some of them are:

  • Major one, was to release the second Pre-Alpha Tech Demo v0.0.9.
  • Completed few of core features.
  • Added a few buildings to the map. Including the castle.
  • Improved a bit the graphical side of UMeFate.

But due to moving higher priority Lua based modding UI, this task has shifted from later 2026, to 2025. Consequently that pushed any AI autonomy tasks later. Most likely at the beginning of 2026.

So why is the UI refactor now? In short, due to the need of bug fixes and required new systems for future player interactions with the world. And since these features didn’t exist yet and had to be added anyway, as also developing UI modding via Lua was planned for the next year, it was decided to move this job to earlier dates.

Also, this allows UMeFate to test modding literally from the day one of the modding development.

For more details, this has been discussed in more detail in the previous blog post about the UI.

Currently Working On

Effectively, currently still working on UI refactoring. But now, slowly bringing new mechanics.

Along with that, tackling continuous modding challenges. Refining existing and adding new UI components. But also exploring various UI approaches and prototyping new options.

Below are a few screenshots regarding the current progress. But most likely these will change in upcoming weeks.

v0.0.10 UI WIP

UI graphics at this point are none critical. Something to be tackled in the future. The layout and functionality is the core focus for now. Also, UI elements colours are not moddable atm. These are of lower priority.

What Next

  • Continuing on refactoring UI with Lua modding.
  • Test the whole game loop, with the game lobby menu.

After Lua UI work, then development can move to address list of feedback and bugs, reported by UMeFate lovely playtesters.

Then push an update to Steam. And finally start work on autonomy mechanics.

And that's all for today's update. 🙂

Until the next one đź‘‹
