Been a bit while since last update.
Today UMes releasing the first project development roadmap.
Presenting the beginning of the long journey ahead, which is envisioned for many years to come.
It got inspired by various great game titles and sparked from many ideas over the years, prototypes and the passion to games and life simulations.
Up to date, UMes posted multiple dev progression videos and blogs, showing how game evolved so far.
As of today, roadmap is at early Pre-Alpha stage. Many components has already started their developed and are at various progression level.
Some systems are required for significant rework and extensive testing. That is critical aspect for achieving goal of high performance and smooth gameplay experience.
These systems also happens to play crucial role in the future development, as will be part of the game core, which otherwise may be hard to change and can lead later to critical tech depth.
There is listed road map in screenshots of this post, however the development journey is as follow.
As of Pre-Alpha (Current):
- Project has already past the prototype stage and proof of concept. The direction of development has been evaluated and set.
- With entering to the Pre-Alpha stage, it will span over 2024 and 2025 years, to reach the point, where game can provide minimum playability and fun to players and fans.
- Some game components will be designed at framework and minimalistic level, to be able deliver basic experience and show the development direction to players.
- Gameplay is the main focus, while visuals and graphics are at lower priority and depending on the available budget.
- It is planned high emphasis on relation and social interaction of NPCs (AI characters) and players. But for Pre-Alpha, it will be very limited and basics.
- Order of roadmap sub-components can shift, as many system overlaps with each other to certain extent.
- Multiple techs are investigated and some are already chosen. But before implementation, they may require strict testing and prototyping.
Once minimum playable and fun gameplay will be reached, project will enter into the Alpha stage:
- There will be higher emphasis on animations and graphics, in the respect to the Pre-Alpha. But the gameplay still will take higher priority over.
- Improved and extended NPC logic will be important element of this development stage.
- Also aiming for more designer tools and decoration objects. That includes doors windows, stairs, furniture etc.
- Along with that, these objects should be meaningful to the world. Like having object should have function.
- Further extending modding support and tools. Here Lua is the main driving force for that matter.
- Economy should start taking shape, to allow players and NPCs have more meaning.
- That leads to evolution of basics work places and jobs.
- And of course many other core game elements, which are to detailed to be listed out here.
With established solid base gameplay and enough content, Alpha will be heading toward Beta stage, which will be announced around time with Steam Early Access:
You can already WISHLIST UMeFate on Steam
- The preparation to Beta will required extensive testing, bug fixing, focus on performance, extending further modding and adding features.
- The time frame is undefined at this point, as it is to hard, if even possible to predict.
Steam Early Access (Beta) will follow principles of previous development stage.
That is until UMeFate finally reaches stable release version 1.0.0.
Beyond Release:
- It is planned further continous development.
- Providing content updates.
- And general gameplay experience improvements.
Up to date roadmap will further updated in the UMeFate Roadmap section.
